adjacent

An adjacent aesthetic is a neighbor in formal or social terms — close enough that the wiki must say what it shares with the subject and where they part. Pages tagged adjacent exist to sharpen the boundary by comparison. They are not dismissals of the neighbor; they are a way of seeing the subject more clearly by showing what it isn’t, while crediting what it borrows.

disputed

A disputed page is one where the subject’s status is actively contested — the artist’s identity, an attribution, an event’s record, a movement’s boundary. Pages tagged disputed foreground the disagreement: who is claiming what, on what evidence, with what counter-claims. The wiki does not adjudicate; it makes the dispute legible, and lets readers reach the primary sources.

figure

A figure is a person. Pages tagged figure document an artist, theorist, organizer, or anyone whose acts are part of the subject under investigation. Treat each entry as a working sketch: the figure’s contribution, their relationship to the wider movement, and the strands of work that lead in and out of them. Pages will deepen as research continues; absence of a page is not absence of importance, only absence of evidence so far.

lineage

Lineage pages map descent: who studied with whom, what work begat what, which earlier movement seeded the next. Pages tagged lineage are explicit about evidence — when was the influence acknowledged, by whom, in what venue. The Clio Press model treats lineage as load-bearing; a movement that doesn’t know where it comes from cannot be honestly read.

movement

A movement is a named scene, school, or current — a body of work and a community of practice that recognize themselves as kin. Pages tagged movement trace where the name came from, what counts as in or out, the works that exemplify it, and the disputes inside it. Movements are slippery; the wiki tries to honor what insiders call themselves while remaining honest about contested boundaries.

venue

A venue is a place where the work meets a public — a gallery, a website, a marketplace, a chain. Pages tagged venue describe the space, the people who run it, what it shows, and how its conditions shape what gets made. Venues are infrastructural: a movement’s possibility space is in part the venues willing to host it.

work

A work is a specific made thing — an artwork, a collection, a publication, a release. Pages tagged work describe what the piece is, how it operates formally, who made it, and how it fits the subject’s lineage. Where possible the wiki cites the primary source on the Are.na channel for the issue, so readers can examine the evidence directly rather than take the wiki’s word for it.
